10 Best 64-bit Applications for Windows
In computer architecture, 64-bit integers, memory addresses, or other data units are those that are at most 64 bits wide. This architecture is widely supported, mostly because of low price of RAM memory and very good performance for native 64-bit applications, compared to 32-bit ones.
64-bit systems supports and works with more than 4 GB of RAM memory. Compared to 32-bit systems which can work with little more than 3 GB – no matter how much do you have physical modules on your motherboard.
10 Best Free 64-bit Apps for Windows OS
1.) Mozilla Firefox x64 – 64-bit version of Mozilla Firefox. Works really great and fast on 64-bit systems. Much faster and better from my experience than “original” 32-bit version. Bad thing is that it doesn’t support (of course) 32-bit plug-ins like Flash because it currently doesn’t exist for x64 windows systems.
2.) Mozilla Thunderbird – From my experience it works better and faster on 64-bit systems, but not much faster than Firefox for x64. Anyway, this is great and a “must-have” application for all 64-bit system users. Of course, it’s the most popular free e-mail client for Windows.
3.) Comodo Firewall – Great free firewall application for your 64-bit Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. Believe me, this firewall works like it’s commercial! All necessary functions and protection features are included into free version. Works just great on x64 platforms too.
4.) JkDefrag – Disk defragmenter and optimizer for Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/2008/X64. Completely automatic and very easy to use, fast, low overhead, with several optimization strategies, and can handle floppies, USB disks, memory sticks, and anything else that looks like a disk to Windows.
5.) 7-Zip – The most advanced and fastest 64-bit supported file archive manager. Completely free and easy-to-use application. Works on all Windows x64 platforms and it’s very small. Usually, 7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format.
6.) Paint.NET – It’s one of the most advanced and popular desktop photo editors. Supports 64-bit version and it’s very small and very, very fast. Supports for Plug-ins, advanced and cool filters, layers support and much much more features. Absolute recommendation for all!
7.) PDF XChange – PDF-XChange Viewer offers all the feature’s you would expect such as support of all PDF file formats from Version 1.0 all the way to the latest 1.7. Works very fast on 64-bit systems – and most important – it’s completely free.
8.) K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit – This is a bundle of 64-bit DirectShow filters that can be used together with 64-bit players, such as Vista Media Center. This pack can co-exist without problems with the regular (32-bit) K-Lite Codec Pack. You only need 64-bit filters for use with 64-bit applications.
9.) Daemon Tools – DAEMON Tools is an advanced application for Microsoft Windows which provides THE best optical media emulation in the industry for free. Note that it offers you to install additional applications with it like Yahoo! toolbar. Keep note to disable all except program files only!
10.) XnView -Software to view and convert graphic files, really simple to use ! Support of more than 400 graphics formats ! It’s free, so do not hesitate! Supports all 64-bit systems. Very fast and advanced freeware image viewer for Windows operating system.
