Discover your competitors to improve overall site SEO and rankings. This is one of the main professional SEO tips for all webmasters or bloggers. It’s very important to discover and track your competitions on the internet. Find the most popular blogs, websites or forums in your site or blog category and discover what others write, discuss or post on own sites. With this technique you can improve your site overall rankings and popularity.

How to Find Competition ?
Very important factor for this strategy is to find most quality and popular web sites, blogs and forums that are related to your site niche. For example, if you have gaming blog, you will search for most quality and popular web sites, forums or other blogs that have better popularity than your site.
I usually search through many forums (related to my niche), to find good and perspective blogs and sites. Also, good way to search is through Google, Blog Search or Technorati. Find most quality blogs by combination of these services.
What to Analyze and Look ?
Look for following factors on competition web sites, blogs or forums. You need to take some time to discover, analyze and compose these factors:
- Writing style – Discover how others write on own web sites or blogs. This may improve your overall writing score, giving you better quality of your site. Specially look how “they” write their titles and overall content.
- Site Design – Look for site design of your competitors, design your web site or blog to be related to your niche. Plain templates are not recommended.
- Be Part of the Community – Comment, reply or post your opinion wherever you can on your competition web sites, blogs or forums. This can improve your overall rankings and popularity. Also, you can receive some good and quality (related) traffic for free!
Visit your competition sites whenever you can. Don’t visit them just once. The best way to stay in touch with their updates is to Subscribe by their RSS updates and keep them in one place using some RSS readers like Netvibes or iGoogle. You can see more details on my Why to Subscribe page.
