How to Calculate a Blog Value

In this post, I’d try to help you how to calculate your blog value. Through, there’s no way to calculate a blog value accurately. Believe me, ask 10 different bloggers or webmasters and you’ll get 10 different answers regarding your blog value. There I’d try to help you how to calculate your blog and which are the most important factors that can impact your blog overall value.

How to successfully calculate your blog value?

The blog value can vary from the potential buyer and the best possible way for you is to get the most appropriate value if you’re willing to sell you blog on the internet. I’m strongly against selling your own blog, but there’re so much bloggers and webmasters which sell their own sites on the internet – for a reason of course.

Why bloggers sell their own blogs?

There’re many reasons why bloggers sell their own blogs on the internet. I’ve searched a while and find the most common reasons why bloggers sell their own blogs.

  • Lack of Money – The main reason is of course the material factor. Most of the bloggers sell their blogs because they’re short on cash and want to get it quickly by selling their own sites.
  • Doesn’t have a Time – The second reason would be the time-consuming reason. Of course, blogging can take so much time, and some of the bloggers can’t spend it quality. Specially if their own multiple blogs. It’s good to sell a blog if you don’t have a time to maintain it – at least for them.
  • Loosing Inspiration – It’s really a shame how much bloggers give-up so fast. Most of them simply loose their own inspiration in the blogging and tries to make as much money they can by selling a blog at the end.

I’m strongly against the blog selling. If you’re a blogger, try to blog less if you have to – but make your blog sale the last possible option to consider.

Calculating a Blog Value

I can say for sure that blog worth what someone is willing to pay. The final price of the blog can strongly depend on the variety of things including the most important ones listed below.

Blog Traffic

Of course, a blog traffic is one of the most important factor that can directly impact your overall blog value. I personally think about the traffic as the universal online currency, think about it that way.

The higher traffic you have, the better price and value you’ll get from your potential buyers for sure.

Advertisement Revenue and Potential

The second most important thing is the advertisement revenue and potential that specific blog can achieve monthly. If you have a constant income from your blog, you should never sell it below the annual revenue price.

For the example, if your blog average monthly earnings are around $100, you should never sell your blog below the annual price – in this case $1200. The minimum value of your blog strongly depends on your online potential earnings too.

Blog Niche (Topic)

The third most important factor for me is the blog niche or a topic. Buyers needs to consider to buy a blog in the niche they’re capable to maintain successfully.

I have to note that most buyers actually buys a blogs and then convert them to the other niche – very bad move for sure!

Blog Design

A blog design is important factor in the value calculation. It’s obvious that you’ll get more potential price for your blog if you use a professional (paid) design on your blog, and get the lower price for the free design.

For me, the blog design is very important, because the most buyers which visit your blog for the first time would know how much they’re willing to pay for that design.

Web Statistics

The last but not least factor is the web statistic rankings on the internet. A lot of bloggers and webmasters actually care about these values. Specially, if it’s related to the Google PageRank value and your Alexa rankings.

Most potential buyers would check these rankings on the internet and offer you the price they’re willing to pay for a blog according to these values and rankings.

How to Calculate your Overall Blog Value?

Well, I’ve provide you above the most important factors when you’re going to calculate (and potentially sell) your blog. I didn’t tell you how to get the accurate value of your blog – because it’s not possible! But I can tell you the following:

The Minimum Value

The minimum value (price) of your blog should not in any case lower than your average annual earnings through the advertisement and affiliate networks on the internet.

Also, you should care about the earnings potential from your site. Maybe you have a blog with 1 or 2 advertisements, it’s strongly possible that you’d have a better earnings if you place more ads on your blog. This also can strongly depend on your blog traffic and source of the visitors.

Final Thoughts

There’s no such tool on the internet that can accurately calculate your blog value. Keep note that all depends on the potential buyer which actually wants to buy your blog. At least, you can set your minimum blog price using the simple advertisement revenue formula explained above.

I hope that I’ve help you to determine your own blog value. If you have any other questions or experiences, feel free to post them using the contact form below.

Definitely a hard thing to figure out. It is worth however much a person is willing to pay for it… but all your points play a role in that decision. The domain name itself has a lot to do with it as well, as I have know people that have sold their blog for close to 100K, and the site was not making much money at all and the traffic was nothing to speak of, but the domain was great.
